Murray Mania

For all the hype about Andy Murray being the next champion and the one to who could dethrone Federer, he simply wilted under the pressure of a slam final and the pinpoint strokes of Federer. I think he is the most overrated tennis player in recent history. For all his all court game, slices, drop shots, foot speed, back hand down the lines etc, what he lacks is a signature stroke and an offensive game plan. Well, to have an offensive game plan is one and to be able to execute it against a super offensive player like Federer is another. Consistent offence is simply not natural to Murray. He was able to do that effectively for longer stretches against a less formidable version of Nadal in the quarterfinals but to try and do that consistently against Federer or any other opponent, is simply not Murray's game. He waits for the ball rather than get on top of it, especially on the forehand side and that can provide ample openings in the rallies for an aggressive player like Federer to pull the trigger. I can see Murray as being a modern and stronger version of... heck, I will call him a glorified Hewitt and nothing more. He may win a slam or two based on his ball striking and retrieving abilities but certainly not a threat to dethrone a player like Federer. I know that sounds like writing him off but at least I am not doing that to a 16 time grand slam champion.
